The Boss Baby 2: Family Business (2021)

It’s certainly not the first time this year I’ve been to see a children’s film that’s a sequel to something I haven’t seen. With The Croods 2 it didn’t feel like I needed to see the original to enjoy the second, but that’s not entirely true of The Boss Baby 2; it seemed I was missing a lot of in jokes from the first film. Either that or it simply wasn’t a particularly amusing film. That’s not to say there’s not invention throughout, there absolutely is, but some of it is so utterly mad I couldn’t help but think what sort of mind these ideas had sprung from. Tim and Ted are now grown adults (I’m assuming they were the babies in the original) but rarely see each other due to Tim being a stay at home Dad and Ted a big time CEO. Events conspire to draw them together after Tim’s baby daughter is revealed to have the mind of a full-grown adult (or ‘boss baby’) working undercover for BabyCorp. Confused? She then forces Tim and Ted to take a formula that transforms them back into babies for forty-eight hours to help BabyCorp uncover a dangerous plot. With me? At the very least Boss Baby 2 maintains its lunacy throughout, meaning that it is at least consistent. It’s without doubt a step down in quality from last weeks Ron’s Gone Wrong, but it’s not entirely without its charms. 5.8/10
