Bee Movie (2007)

I watched this with my daughter, and I would say I enjoyed it as much as she did. I actually saw it in the cinema back in ’07, and I remember liking it then, but I was surprised at how well it held up. Revisiting it now, there are certainly a few jokes that some people who have far too much time on their hands and who love to have a moan at anyone and anything that they pretend upsets them, but I’ll be honest, I openly laughed at them. There is plenty of invention in Bee Movie, and the plot is so implausible (a bee sues the human race for their use of honey at the expense of bees essentially) that it actually works a treat. Jerry Seinfeld is the voice of the lead character Barry (a bee) and he and Renee Zellweger (voicing a human) riff off each other well. There are a lot of bee jokes thrown at the wall, and more of them stick then not. Bee Movie received a pretty underwhelming critical response on release, but not only is it harmless and appealing to very young children, there’s more than enough here for adults to laugh along with as well. 7.4/10
