Watching a film in 4DX is absolutely a different experience from seeing it in the traditional cinematic fashion. Firstly, I cannot believe that anyone would choose to see The Batman in 4DX for example, a format in which somewhat bizarrely it was being offered in. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 however, seems to be the exact type of film that 4DX was invented for. Taking my four year old to a film she had been excited about for a while, and then adding into the mix that the seats move, you can feel water, bubbles and wind at the appropriate moments, essentially meant that she was watching a film she loved whilst being on a lengthy theme park ride. 4DX is not something I’d go to on my own, but by the same token I would be unlikely to see The Paw Patrol movie or Sonic on my own. So the experience was a terrific one with the young lady, and she absolutely loved it. As far as the film goes, I enjoyed it as much as the first one, it’s good fun being in the company of Sonic, Tails, and (especially towards the end) Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba. Jim Carey once again provides the films best lines, and I laughed several times at his antics and improved moustache. There’s no doubt whatsoever that young fans of the characters will have a blast with this and although 4DX is not something you’ll be shelling out for every week (it’s insanely expensive) it’s worth it for a special occasion with your little one. 6.5/10
