Quantum of Solace (2008)

Any other James Bond film seen on a 'worst films' list would naturally be blasphemous, but Quantum Of Solace is dreadful. Admittedly badly hampered by the writers strike, this doesn't excuse thrashing out a script that my five year old daughter could improve upon whilst she slept. There's nothing wrong with the performances, although Gemma Arterton (usually so excellent) is reduced to embodying the role of a submissive moron, a backwards step in the series that dreadfully attempts to nod to the early films of the series. Combine that with a scene involving her character which simply rehashes a famous scene from Goldfinger (1964), and you know you're in a bad way. As far as the plot goes, Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric, in one of the films' more enjoyable performances) wants to buy some land in the desert and prevent some people getting some water or something. I wrote my university dissertation on James Bond, that's how much I love it, but this is beyond the pale, enormously aided in its sprint to the executioners block by a truly atrocious theme from the usually reliable Jack White, and Alicia Keys. 4.0/10

I'm Christian and like everyone, I'm a film critic in the sense that I enjoy watching any film at any time, discussing it, and in the last few years putting pen to paper to offer my thoughts.
