I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2021)

When it was announced that Netflix were providing Charlie Kauffman with a platform to do whatever he pleased, it was both hugely exciting, and hugely problematic. Kauffman can be brilliant, but also baffling, and I'm Thinking Of Ending Things falls somewhere in the middle. Jessie Buckley gives a tour de force of a performance as a young women travelling with her boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to visit his parents (a superb David Thewlis and Toni Collette) on a remote farm in the middle of a blizzard. There's no point in giving you any more than that at all, those of you who know Kauffman's work will understand why that is. It's not the easiest entry point into his work, and It certainly doesn't hit the heights of his best work (Being John Malkovich [1999], Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind [2004]) but Kauffman's work is always watchable, and this probably sits somewhere alongside Synecdoche, New York (2008) in his pantheon of work. What you thought of that film will probably be some kind of indication as to how you feel about this one. Then again, it is Kauffman, so, who knows. 6.7/10

I'm Christian and like everyone, I'm a film critic in the sense that I enjoy watching any film at any time, discussing it, and in the last few years putting pen to paper to offer my thoughts.
