Inventive doesn't scratch the surface when thinking of words to describe Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia's Spanish near-apocryphal Sci-Fi. Set in a prison known as 'The Hole', which is a vertical nightmare with one cell per level and two inmates per cell, we are introduced to Goreng who has voluntarily placed himself in this inferno of madness. Each month the prisoners are randomly moved to a different levels of the prison. The key issue is the 'platform' which descends throughout the cells, laden with food. Level 1 prisoners get first pick, and what remains after their allotted time sinks to level two, and so on. The social experiment, if indeed it can be called that as context is scarce, is the idea that if everyone took just what they needed, everyone would eat. But as greed kicks in, the platform is inevitably empty by around level 50, ensuring that everyone below must find their own methods of avoiding starvation. The Platform is obviously an allegory of structural and social unbalance, but it can be interpreted so many different ways within that realm, be it political or judicial.

Take the ending however you want, I've read several different opinions, but either way, this is really worth a watch. 7.5/10
