I honestly didn’t think I would make it this far through the Scream franchise without become very bored. And although I did eventually reach that feeling during Scream 4, it’s testament to Wes Craven that at the end of the third installment I was actively looking forward to 4.
Scream 3 sees Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers being persuaded by a detective to travel to Hollywood to the set of Stab 3, after a prominent character from the first couple of films has been murdered. Shortly after this, Sidney (heroine of 1 & 2) is also prized out of hiding to visit the set following more murders by the new ghostface killer.
Scream 3 as you’d expect, parodies all the clichés and traits of a trilogy with mixed results; it does justify its place in the franchise, which is an achievement in itself, but understandably lacks the originality of the first, and even the second, Scream films.
6.4/10
