Porky's (1981)

I was racking my brain after watching Porky’s trying to work out how it had achieved an 18 certificate before remembering there was some full frontal nudity in it. Porky’s seems to have a reputation for being a nasty, crude and crass piece of trash, but although the piece of trash label may be warranted, the rest of it seems harsh when we live in a world where something like The Inbetweeners is considered perfectly fine. Porky’s is funnier than The Inbetweeners has ever been, and does have heart and an air of brotherhood with worthy messages of friendship beneath the surface of nonsense that covers the film. This template of high schoolers losing their virginity is something that was refined and perfected in American Pie (1999) but there’s no doubt that Porky’s is the raw and scratchy original blueprint. There are without doubt things that aren’t acceptable in Porky’s that would never make the final cut of a feature film today, but we must apply historical culture and context to everything before we start ludicrously dismissing and ‘cancelling’ the past. Porky’s is rubbish, but I’d be lying through my teeth if I said I didn’t enjoy it. 6.4/10

I'm Christian and like everyone, I'm a film critic in the sense that I enjoy watching any film at any time, discussing it, and in the last few years putting pen to paper to offer my thoughts.
