Loosely adapted from Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff, Matt Johnson's film deals with exactly that- what happened to the mobile giant.

Focusing on the founder of BlackBerry CEO Mike Lazaridis and co-founder Doug Fregin, the film takes a comedy-drama approach to the story which really works surprisingly well.

The two are already the brains behind their own company Research in Motion when they pitch the idea of the 'PocketLink', a combination of a phone and email device, to businessman Jim Balsille who dismisses them before turning up at their offices and demanding to become CEO of RIM, with the promise he will make them incredibly successful.

The rise of the company is thrilling, pitched at just the right tone, and often had me in peals of laughter; just as the decline is equally thrilling, and staggeringly swift.

For those that don't know the full story this will be a blast, and although this isn't in the same league as The Social Network (2010) or Steve Jobs (2015) when it comes to biographical adaptations of huge co-operations, but the style used ensures that the audience are aware that's not what they're aiming for here.

BlackBerry is very funny and thoroughly entertaining and with fine performances from all involved it will be interesting to see what sort of release this gets when it hits the UK in October. 7.1/10
